Polydioxanone Threads, commonly known as PDO threads are the latest and greatest in minimally-invasive aesthetic procedures.
There are different types of PDO threads including barbed, smooth, and twist threads. At New Life Aesthetics, we offer smooth and twist threads both of which stimulate collagen production and smooth skin.
PDO threads are a fully absorbable suture-like material that have been used for many years in biomedical applications. Particularly useful in cardiothoracic surgery, PDO threads are completely absorbed by the body in 4-6 months and do not create scar tissue.
The human body recognizes the suture as a foreign body and this stimulates collagen which creates new structural support in the skin.
Many patients are dissatisfied with how they look because of sagging or loose skin that has lost structure due to age. Using PDO threads to smooth the skin and add structure to the delicate tissues on the face and neck are a great, non-invasive solution. Threads can also be used to treat crepey aging skin on other areas of the body, including the tops of your knees!
PDO threads can be a stand-alone procedure or combined with any other procedure our nurses perform. Threads are a terrific option to complement Botox and filler treatments, helping the texture of treated skin to improve.
Our aesthetic nurses have been trained by the American Institute of Aesthetic Medicine in the NovaMesh and NovaLyft techniques, which are considered lunchtime procedures.
PDO threads can be safely placed in-office and the procedure usually takes less than an hour to complete.

PDO Threads are not a new technology, they’ve been used for many years to support cardiologists performing various heart procedures. You may have heard of dissolvable stitches or sutures, and PDO threads are made of this same material that will completely dissolve after time.
Once these dissolvable sutures are placed, they provide structure and collagen stimulation to the specific places where they are inserted. The PDO threads themselves are thin and flexible and once inserted under your skin, they strengthen the dermal layer, giving skin a smoother, healthier appearance.
Depending on treatment goals, a patient may need multiple PDO threads in one area or multiple sessions spaced out over time to achieve results.
PDO threads are often used to treat areas on the face that are prone to sagging or loose skin. This includes the cheek, jawline, and under eye. PDO threads can be placed in the neck as well to build healthy tissue underneath the chin.
Thin tissue under the eye or upper lip lines can be improved with PDO threads.
The options are nearly endless when it comes to PDO threads making them a great treatment option, especially in areas where Botox may not complete the job.
The PDO Thread procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour to complete. In order to make the procedure as comfortable as possible, our PDO thread specialist will numb the area with a temporary local anesthesia so you will only feel minimal sensation in the treatment area.
While the PDO threads are being placed, you may feel some slight tugging or pulling as the threads are secured in the proper place.
Once your procedure is finished, you may notice some slight swelling or bruising at the insertion. You should avoid rubbing the treatment area until it has healed and you want to reduce rigorous exercises for a week or two as the PDO threads secure in place. Makeup can be worn the day after your treatment.
Though you may see some initial improvement in the treatment area, your skin appearance will continue to improve as the PDO threads stimulate your own collagen production to enhance structure and lift wrinkles for a few months following your treatment.
Thanks to collagen production, even after the PDO threads dissolve (which takes a few months) you will still see results for up to 18 months after your procedure.
If you’re ready to treat sagging, lifeless skin, call New Life Aesthetics today. Our PDO Thread specialists will assess your needs and goals and determine if PDO threads are the right treatment option for you.
